The newspapers and the Internet have been filled with stories about how mortgages are sold and traded among banks and investment groups to the point where the original loan documents are missing.
Considerably less attention has been given to the current phenomenon of "debt buyers" and their acquisitions of delinquent credit card portfolios. But those of us who spend time in the civil sessions of the District Courts know that the activity in many court sessions is completely dominated by a handful of investor groups who buy credit card debt at discounted prices and then use bullying, predatory lawyers to recover money.

Since the national economy began to sharply deteriorate in 2008, consumers naturally are having a more difficult time in paying ordinary bills, especially credit card charges.
This has led to an increase in high pressure tactics by consumer collection agencies. Aggressive, often belligerent phone calls can come at all times of the day, and interrupt meals, visits from friends and disrupt your daily routine.
Too often, debt collectors cross the boundaries of what is lawful behavior.

Credit card interest rates usually enjoy wide protection from usury laws.
Under a United States Supreme Court decision (Marquette v. First Omaha Service Corp. 439 U.S. 2990 (1978), courts have recognized the rule that banks organized in states that allow very high limits (or no limit) on interest rates can charge the same rates in any other state as well. This is the reason many banks that issue national credit cards are based in Delaware or South Dakota.
Rosemary DeCristoforo, though, a Beverly Mass. resident, was fortunate enough to find a lawyer who thinks "outside the box."

While Catholicism, Judaism, and Islam all teach that usury is wrong, their members apparently cannot get enough of it.
What else explains the following?
The First Premier Bank has offered a credit card with 59.9% interest rate readjusted from 79.9% complete with a $45 processing fee to open the account, an annual fee of $30 for the first year, a $45 fee for each subsequent year and a monthly servicing fee of $6.24.

Decent people everywhere took genuine satisfaction at the irony of the televised bar proceedings involving disgraced Democratic prosecutor Michael Nifong recently.. Here was the prosecutor being prosecuted. Here was the inversion of justice, the purported defender of truth, justice and the American way being exposed as a purveyor of lies, injustice and subversion of constitutional right, and better yet, he is being made to pay for it.
Regrettably, Mr. Nifong is not a rare creature. From coast to coast, America is plagued with the twin epidemics of legal and government

They are entrusted to enact laws, enforce them and to do what is best for society.

We in the United States have heard of the Untouchables for years, but confusion and misunderstanding exists about this topic. If one recalls social studies courses about India and its Hindu faith, one remembers that Indian society is a highly stratified society with the light-skinned Brahmins on the top and dark skinned Untouchables, called Dalits, on the bottom, and other castes in between.

If there is one man who epitomizes the best of the ideals of the Republican Party,
